The exposure tree
Recently I decided to film an exposure tree on Kodak Vision 3 250D 16mm film stock to create a template or rather, an overview of look and feel at various exposure levels that can give a sense of direction in a certain scene. This particular exposure tree involves two factors; a key light and a backlight.
Low light filming with Alexa 35
Filming in low light with the ARRI Alexa 35 and how the distribution of highlights and shadows shift across the dynamic range of the camera; from EI200 all the way up to EI6400 while maintaining the same amount of light within the scene.
Additionally, exploring creative applications with EI (ISO) in mind, when it can be motivated to push towards higher EI or consider faster optics. The article includes comparisons of stills, a look at waveforms and conclusions.
